Placements24 is seeking a Principal AI Research Scientist to lead generative AI initiatives in a fully remote role across South Africa. You will guide research in LLMs, diffusion models, and GANs, publish in top venues, and mentor a team of researchers while shaping strategic AI direction.

We expect a PhD, 7+ years of research, deep learning expertise, and strong Python experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.

About the Role

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a closely related field with a specialization in generative models or deep learning.
• Extensive research experience (7+ years) with a strong publication record in top-tier AI venues.
• Deep expertise in deep learning, with a proven track record of developing and implementing generative models (LLMs, diffusion models, GANs).
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong theoretical understanding of machine learning, probability, and statistics.
• Experience leading research projects and mentoring junior researchers.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and drive research initiatives in a remote setting.
• Experience with large-scale distributed training is highly desirable.
