About the role

Zutari is seeking Principal Engineers to work on multidisciplinary engineering projects within the water and wastewater treatment team. Positions are based in Cape Town or Tshwane offices, considering candidates from civil, mechanical, and chemical engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities include:

• Project and engineering management
• Building trust with clients
• Delivering engineering solutions with a focus on digital information management, workflows, and delivery efficiency
• Complex engineering tasks, investigations, studies, assessments, calculations, and analyses
• Design of water and wastewater treatment infrastructure
• Hydraulic design for water and wastewater treatment
• Preparation of engineering reports and tender documentation
• Contract administration and quality assurance during construction
• Ensuring timely, high-quality project delivery
• Mentoring engineers, technologists, and technicians
• Collaborating across disciplines and geographies
• Maintaining quality standards and procedures

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc (Eng) in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
• Registration with ECSA or equivalent as a Professional Engineer
• 7+ years of experience in water and wastewater treatment projects
• Willingness to work in a team, learn, and mentor others
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Valid Code EB driving license or higher
• Master's degree in water/wastewater treatment or related field (preferred)
• Knowledge of water/wastewater process design, optimization, and aquatic chemistry fundamentals
