Job summary

Toyota SA in Durban seeks a PTED Production Engineer to ensure stable and efficient PTED production operations, focusing on process control, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement in line with Toyota standards.

The role requires deep knowledge of PTED facilities, systems and processes, cross-functional collaboration, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The successful candidate will drive KPI delivery, support audits and new model introductions.

Qualifications

  • NQF 6 – Mechanical Engineering qualification.
  • 6–8 years working experience in an automotive environment.
  • Project management experience essential (Between R15M to R100M).
  • Knowledge of automotive Paint process and equipment (ED and TC).
  • Knowledge of Paint production systems.
  • Knowledge of conveyor and transfer systems.
  • Knowledge of Paint applications and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain PTED process stability and compliance.
  • Drive production efficiency and equipment uptime.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Support production readiness, volume ramp-up and SOP.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Purpose of the Role To ensure stable and efficient PTED production operations through in-depth knowledge of the PTED facility, systems, and process functionality, enabling effective process control, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement in line with Toyota operational standards.

Key Performance Areas
Production & Process Control
  • Maintain PTED process stability and compliance
  • Ensure KPI delivery requirements
  • Monitor parameters within specification of RJ and process requirements.
  • Ensure optimal performance delivering long-term durability requirements against THS and TIS standards.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Operational Performance
  • Drive production efficiency and equipment uptime.
  • Support production readiness, volume ramp-up and SOP.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Implement process improvements and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Optimize chemical consumption, energy usage, and equipment efficiency.
  • Lead kaizen and problem-solving activities.
  • Equipment Reliability
  • Support preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and suppliers on system optimization.
  • Ensure reliability of all ED equipment systems
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work cross-functionally with Production, Maintenance, QA, Weld plant, Assembly Plant and Suppliers.
  • Support audits, trials, and new model introductions.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer and standardization of best practice.
Qualifications And Experience
  • NQF 6 – Qualification in Mechanical Engineering and 6-8 years working experience in an automotive environment.
  • Project management experience essential (Between R15M to R100M)
  • Knowledge of automotive Paint process and equipment (ED and TC)
  • Knowledge of Paint production systems
  • Knowledge of conveyor and transfer systems.
  • Knowledge of Paint applications and standards
  • Knowledge of ( TOYOPAC , T-PAC , JKK , QRB )
  • Knowledge of ( TIS and THS , DX system , Yokoten)
  • Knowledge of ( Jishuken , Andon, Kandban, Heijunka, Jidoka )
  • Knowledge of Process control equipment viz. PLC’s, DX, Proximity switches, photocells
  • etc.
  • High level of computer literacy is needed for this position. (Excel, Word, Auto Cad)
