Position: Principal Electronic Engineer - RF/SDRP

Incomar is an aerospace and defence company based in Centurion, South Africa. We are continuously expanding our specialised product development and flight operations capabilities. The group was established in South Africa in 1999, with its origins in military aircraft weapons and avionics integration and flight testing. The company is well established in the local and international industry, with a strong capability in several specialist areas, including:

  1. Systems Design, Development, and Integration.
  2. System Testing on a range of platforms/products.
  3. Product Development.
  4. Flight Test Execution and Support.

Incomar is looking for motivated individuals to perform detailed RF & SDR designs for modules used in Radio Communications. This includes electronic hardware & PCB design, firmware & software design, testing, verification, validation and integration of the hardware into the various systems and platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electronic or Computer Engineering, Master’s degree preferred.

Required Skills and Experience:

  1. 10+ years of electronic hardware & firmware development experience.
  2. RF & Electronic hardware design & development skills.
  3. In-depth knowledge and experience in RF & SDR PCB design.
  4. Knowledge or experience in firmware development (using VHDL and targeting Xilinx devices).
  5. Knowledge of Communication and Modulation Schemes.
  6. Hardware testing, debugging & integration skills.
  7. Product development and system engineering skills involving all aspects of the "V" life cycle and the system engineering management process.
  8. Proficient in requirements management.
  9. Configuration and product lifecycle management skills.
  10. Proficient in required design & simulation packages (e.g. Vivado (Xilinx), Libero, MATLAB, MWO, CST, etc).
  11. Proficient in MS Office.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  1. Military, Defence Industry and/or Avionics development experience preferable.
  2. Experienced in PCB development using Altium Designer.
  3. Knowledge or experience in the RTCA DO-254 design process.
  4. Knowledge or experience in hardware environmental qualification to military and civilian standards (RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, etc).
  5. Experience in avionics LRU design & development.
  6. System safety engineering skills.
  7. Logistical support engineering skills.
  8. Exposure to software version control tools.

Responsibilities:

  1. Communication Systems Design for dynamic environments.
  2. Performing hardware/firmware/modulation scheme item design activities, including the electrical, electronic, mechanical and thermal design aspects.
  3. Conducting hardware development according to the "V" product development life cycle and system engineering management process.
  4. Performing electrical wiring designs for electrical systems & sub-systems.
  5. Writing and maintaining specifications related to electrical/electronic/sub-system development activities.
  6. Writing and maintaining electrical/electronic/sub-system test and verification documentation.
  7. Writing and maintaining system and sub-system hardware interface documentation.
  8. Perform, execute and document electrical/electronic/sub-system compliance, verification, validation and qualification activities.
  9. Configuration and version management of electrical/electronic system, sub-system and item designs.
  10. Simulation, data analysis and report writing applicable to allocated tasks.
  11. Ensuring that customer requirements and applicable standards are met.
  12. Planning and executing tasks within agreed to budgets and timescales.
  13. Contribute towards the improvement and elaboration of hardware design and development processes & tools.
  14. Apply sound ethical principles.
