About the Role

Our client is seeking an exceptional Principal Control Systems Engineer to join their esteemed technical department in Rustenburg, North West . This senior position requires a deep understanding of complex control systems, automation technologies, and their application in industrial settings, particularly within the mining sector. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for the strategic direction of control system design, leading complex technical initiatives, and mentoring a team of highly skilled engineers. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced control strategies and algorithms for complex industrial processes.
• Lead the design, specification, and integration of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and SCADA systems.
• Oversee the development of system architecture, ensuring scalability, robustness, and cybersecurity.
• Conduct detailed risk assessments and safety analyses for control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Provide expert technical consultation and support to project teams, operations, and maintenance departments.
• Mentor and develop a team of control systems engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices in automation and control engineering.
• Collaborate with R&D and engineering departments to drive innovation and implement new technologies.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new control system products and solutions.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 12 years of extensive experience in control systems engineering, with a significant focus on industrial automation.
• Deep expertise in PLC programming (Siemens, Rockwell), DCS configuration, and SCADA HMI development.
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
• Proven experience in leading complex automation projects from conception to commissioning.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address intricate technical challenges.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a talent for mentoring engineering teams.
