The Vacancy

You will have the opportunity to work on interesting and varied flood, coastal, and maritime projects for clients including Local Authorities across the North of England and Wales, Water Companies, the Environment Agency, and Natural Resources Wales.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team in our Chester office, developing our flood, coastal, and maritime business across the North of England and further afield. This role is ideal for a Chartered candidate with demonstrable experience in the flood and coastal sector.

Our work includes feasibility studies, business case preparation, designing cost-efficient schemes using digital technologies, providing construction supervision, and advising on asset management.

About the Role

Supports clients in managing water and coastal environments sustainably and innovatively.

Coordinates, quality assures, and leads the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments, Surface Water Management Plans, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies, and Business Cases.

Leads on developing and implementing business plans to grow our Flood, Coastal, and Maritime (FCM) sector.

Supervises and mentors junior staff, managing small project teams.

Candidates should have a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Water & Environmental Management, or related fields.

For geography/science backgrounds: experience in flood and coastal data analysis, risk assessment reports, business cases, and strategies.

For engineering backgrounds: experience in feasibility assessments, design packages, engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and engineering reports. Oversight of site supervision is also required.

Experience with Lead Local Flood Authorities, project management, and delivering within budgets and timelines.

Commercial awareness, including tendering and contract management.

Excellent communication skills to explain technical information clearly.

Supervisory experience and stakeholder engagement, including with local communities.

Experience with quality assurance processes.
