The overall purpose of the role:
As a senior specialist within the pricing team, the Pricing Consultant is responsible for ensuring excellent client outcomes through fair, sustainable pricing and application of sound underwriting principles. This role involves balancing portfolio profitability with growth through new business acquisition and retention. The Pricing Consultant will play a significant role in maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships (both internal and external to Sanlam) by fostering trust and collaboration to build mutually beneficially long-term partnerships. The Pricing Consultant is also expected to identify and initiate business transformation projects that drive excellence through innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Transformation:
- Initiate and drive business transformation projects
Pricing and Profitability:
- Perform day-to-day Group Risk pricing work
- Monitor ongoing profitability of existing client portfolio
- Management of vulnerable schemes
- Pricing and benefit design of large and/or complex Group Risk schemes
- Enable new business acquisition and profitable growth
- Determining terms of new business
- Review terms of existing business
Client Relationship Management:
- Building and maintaining client relationships through service excellence and communication
- Negotiation with clients, brokers, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders
- Assistance in query and complaints resolution
Product and Risk Management:
- Input into product design and risk management
- Provide technical support to clients, cross-functional teams, and projects
- Perform data analysis relating to emerging claims experience
Team Collaboration and Development:
- Teamwork and collaboration with the quotes and revisions teams as well as other key service areas like sales, member management, claims, and underwriting
- Take responsibility for own development and crafting of a personal development plan
- Training and development of various stakeholders on Group Risk products and processes.
- Coaching of junior staff
Qualification and Experience:
- Matric
- Tertiary qualification in commerce, IT or engineering is an advantage
- At least 5 years’ experience within a Group Risk Pricing environment
Knowledge and Skills:
- Holistic knowledge of the Group Risk Industry
- Exceptional communication skills – both verbal and writte
- Able to coach and upskill others
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience in IT or Project environment is advantageous
- Sound technical skills
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking
