Job description

The SKA Observatory (SKAO) is a next-generation radio astronomy facility that will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe and the laws of fundamental physics.

Enabled by cutting-edge technology, it promises to have a major impact on society, in science and beyond. In South Africa, the SKAO is collaborating with SARAO to operate and support the construction of the mid frequency telescope (SKA-Mid) in the remote Karoo region.

The Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for the development of operator procedures and documentation, as well as mentoring and training data analysts/operators under their supervision.

We have two positions available.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage performance of the data analyst/operator team
  2. Play a leading role in designing and documenting operating procedures for SKAO
  3. Conduct, monitor, and calibrate astronomical observations and use appropriate computing resources towards the successful operation of the telescope array
  4. Undertake quality assurance of data
  5. Support communication between engineering and technical staff and scientific stakeholders
