About the Role

Our client, a renowned academic research institution affiliated with a leading university, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join their esteemed Organic Chemistry research group in Durban. This hybrid role requires a dedicated individual who can contribute significantly to ongoing research projects while maintaining flexibility between laboratory work and remote data analysis or literature review. You will be instrumental in synthesizing novel organic compounds, developing new synthetic methodologies, and characterizing these molecules using advanced spectroscopic techniques. Key Responsibilities

• Synthesize novel organic molecules according to project requirements.

• Characterize synthesized compounds using NMR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC, and other relevant techniques.
• Conduct literature searches to support research objectives and identify new avenues of investigation.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshooting synthetic challenges as they arise.
• Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at internal group meetings and external scientific conferences.
• Collaborate with other researchers on interdisciplinary projects.
• Maintain a well-organized and safe laboratory environment, adhering to all safety protocols.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field from a reputable institution.
• Proven track record of research in organic synthesis, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Strong practical experience with a wide range of organic synthesis techniques and reactions.
• Proficiency in spectroscopic characterization techniques (NMR, MS, IR, UV-Vis).
• Experience with computational chemistry software is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a meticulous approach to experimental work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate research findings.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid research setting.
• Must be available to work on-site at our Durban laboratory facility.
• Eligibility to work in South Africa.
