Durban University of Technology invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the SARChI Chair in Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies. Based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, this role focuses on Industry 4.0/5.0 robotics, AI-driven systems and sustainable manufacturing.

The successful candidate will publish at least two research outputs per year, supervise postgraduate research, and contribute to teaching.

Qualifications

• Must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) awarded within the last five years in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
• Must not be permanently employed at any university or research institution.
• Must not have held a DUT postdoctoral fellowship previously.
• Must be based primarily at DUT Durban for the duration of the fellowship.
• International applicants are welcome; valid work authorisation for South Africa is required before commencement.

Responsabilités

• Publish a minimum of two research output units per annum in DHET/ISI/IBSS accredited journals.
• Contribute to postgraduate research supervision through an active co-supervisory role.
• Participate in the Department’s research activities, seminars, webinars and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Teach modules undergraduate/postgraduate programmes, to a maximum of 12 hours per year.
• Initiate local, national and international networks of researchers.
