Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies require the services of a reputable Post Basic Qualify Pharmacist Assistant for their Woodmead store. Your portfolio will cover the provision of pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for the patient's medicine-related needs, and being accountable for meeting these needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Grade 12 / Matric
  2. Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
  3. Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  4. Working experience on Unisolv
  5. Computer literate – MS Office
  6. Sound numerical skills
  7. Strong command of the English language and a second language
  8. Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous:
  • Knowledge of Retail/ FMCG operations
  • 3rd Additional Language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by a pharmacist
  • Assist with the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas
  • Assist with re-packaging of medicines
  • Assist with the distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6, following instructions from authorized persons
  • Assist with reading and preparing prescriptions, including selection, manipulation, labelling, and supply in accordance with the prescription evaluated by a pharmacist
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally and legally in accordance with SAPC
  • Capture script details accurately and verify patient details
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication; be aware of common dosages and drug interactions
  • Provide correct instructions to patients regarding medication use
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and claims requirements
  • Ensure medications are checked and signed off by a pharmacist
  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop
  • Follow up on script tracking and appointments
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Provide health promotion information
  • Process paperwork for medical aid claims and correct script errors
  • Authorize chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Maintain and merge customer profiles, respond to messages, and report stock levels
  • Receive and merchandise stock according to SOPs, facilitate stock takes, and control stock, cash, and assets
