Job description

Job title : Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant - Valley Hyper - Nelspruit

Minimum Requirements :
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience with Unisolv
  • Sound numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and at least one additional language
  • Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous :
  • Knowledge of Retail / FMCG operations
  • Additional language skills (3rd language)
  • Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drug family planning and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities :
  1. Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  2. Assist with compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to formulas and SOPs approved by a pharmacist
  3. Assist with manufacturing of non-sterile medicines according to formulas and SOPs approved by a pharmacist
  4. Re-package medicines as needed
  5. Assist with stock control and distribution of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines
  6. Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6, under instruction from authorized personnel
  7. Assist with reading and preparing prescriptions, including selection, manipulation, compounding, labeling, and supply of medicines following a pharmacist’s evaluation
  8. Interpret prescriptions accurately and act responsibly within legal requirements (SAPC guidelines)
  9. Capture prescription details accurately and verify patient information
  10. Ensure correct picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, understanding common dosages and drug interactions
  11. Provide patients with correct instructions for medication use
  12. Stay updated on medical aid procedures and claim requirements
  13. Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  14. Assist and advise patients in the dispensary, including self-medication and front-shop services
  15. Follow up on script tracking and appointments as directed by management
  16. Explain medical aid costs to patients
  17. Provide health promotion information to individuals
  18. Process paperwork for medical aid claims and correct rejected scripts
  19. Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  20. Maintain and update customer profiles, including merging profiles when necessary
  21. Respond to messages on customer profiles appropriately
  22. Report stock levels, errors, and shortages to the dispensary manager
  23. Receive and merchandise stock according to SOPs and FEFO principles
