Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires the services of a reputable Post Basic Qualify Pharmacist Assistant for their Selgro Centre store. Your role will involve providing pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for the patient's medicine-related needs and being accountable for meeting these needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Grade 12 / Matric
  2. Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
  3. Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Advantageous:
  • Knowledge of Retail/ FMCG operations
  • Working experience on Unisolv
  • Oncology experience
  • 3rd Additional Language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
  2. Assist with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  3. Assist with manufacturing, re-packaging, and distribution of medicines.
  4. Assist with the ordering of medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6.
  5. Read, interpret, and prepare prescriptions, including labelling and supply.
  6. Accurately interpret scripts and act professionally within legal requirements.
  7. Capture script details, verify patient details, and ensure accurate picking, packing, and labelling.
  8. Provide patient instructions, keep abreast of medical aid procedures, and ensure medications are checked by a pharmacist.
  9. Assist and advise patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front shop.
  10. Follow up on script tracking, appointments, and medical aid costs.
  11. Process paperwork for medical aid claims, correct errors, and ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
  12. Maintain customer profiles, report stock levels, and receive stock according to SOPs.
  13. Facilitate stock takes and exercise stock, cash, and asset control.
Competencies:

Essential:

  • Proficiency in English and a second language
  • Good communication, customer service, attention to detail, numerical skills, problem-solving, teamwork, trustworthiness, time management, and computer literacy.

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations, additional language, and experience with Unisolv, SAP, E-Scripting.
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine.
Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Registered with SAPC
  • Willing to work retail hours
  • Physically fit, able to stand long hours, and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Clear credit and criminal records
