Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies require the services of a reputable Post Basic Qualify Pharmacist Assistant for their Phesantekraal store. Your portfolio will cover the provision of pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for the patient's medicine-related needs, and being accountable for meeting these needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Grade 12 / Matric
  2. Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
  3. Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Advantageous:
  1. Knowledge of Retail/ FMCG operations
  2. Working experience on Unisolv
  3. Oncology experience
  4. 3rd Additional Language
  5. Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  6. Drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  2. Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist
  3. Assist with the manufacturing of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist
  4. Assist with re-packaging of medicine
  5. Assist with the distribution and control of the stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  6. Assist with the ordering of medicine and scheduled substances up to, and including, Schedule 6 according to an instruction of a person authorised in terms of the Medicines Act to purchase or obtain such medicine or scheduled substance
  7. Assist with the reading and preparation of a prescription, the selection, manipulation or compounding of the medicine; the labelling and supply of the medicine, in an appropriate container following the interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist
  8. Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner and within the legal requirements in accordance with the SAPC
  9. Capture script details accurately, and verify patients’ details on the system
  10. Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions
  11. Give accurate instructions to patients regarding the correct use of medicine supplied
  12. Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing
  13. Ensure all medications are checked for accuracy by and signed by a pharmacist
  14. Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop
  15. Follow up with patients regarding script tracking report as requested by the dispensary manager, and follow up on appointments
  16. Explain medical aid costs to patients
  17. Provide information to individuals in order to promote health
  18. Process all paperwork necessary for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids
  19. Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid
  20. Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication
  21. Maintain customer profiles on the system
  22. Merge profiles locally and notify UCS to merge profiles centrally
  23. Take note of any message on the customer profile, and take suitable action
  24. Report on low/out of stock levels, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  25. Receive dispensary stock in accordance with Dis-Chem’s SOPs, and merchandise according to FEFO
  26. Facilitate bi-annual stock takes
  27. Exercise stock, cash, and asset control
