Job description

All that we do is supported by leading-edge technology platforms. A permanent vacancy exists within our Cape Town Investments Team for someone who is passionate about Investments.

THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Portfolio Management: Sygnia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Passive Portfolio Manager to play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and scalability of our passive investment strategies. This individual will be responsible for leveraging their expertise in systems, data integration, and data science to identify, design, and implement solutions that automate key processes within the passive portfolio management lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of passive investment principles, coupled with a passion for utilizing technology to drive operational efficiencies and improve data-driven decision-making.

  • Work with the Head of Passive team in managing, developing and maintaining all passive portfolios, including domestic and international equity portfolios.
  • Strategy Implementation: Develop and execute strategies for tracking and replicating market indices, ensuring portfolios maintain alignment with benchmark performance.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of existing passive portfolio management systems and workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for automation.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and system enhancements to optimize portfolio construction, trading, rebalancing, reporting, and compliance processes.
  • Collaborate with the development team and vendor partners to implement and integrate systems or modules, ensuring seamless data flow and functionality.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage potential risks associated with passive investment portfolios, including data integrity, market, liquidity, corporate events and tracking error risks.
  • Performance Analysis: Regularly analyse portfolio performance against benchmarks, assess tracking error, and report on performance metrics to senior management.
  • Sell-side quant experience implementing DMA trading algos for strategies is a plus.
  • Ad hoc fund investigations

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ investment experience within financial services, Data Science, preferably with passive investment strategies.
  • Relevant Degree/Qualifications.
  • A CFA or Actuarial candidate with investment experience would be preferable.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong MS Excel and Database skills.
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Programming skills would be advantageous (R, Python).
  • General market awareness.
  • Ability to work in a team, proactive and self-motivated.
  • A passion for investments.
