Takealot, a leading South African online retailer, is looking for a highly talented Portfolio Accounts Lead to join our team in Cape Town.

The position reports to the Head of Commercial Strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Achieving the group's client portfolio targets by driving performance within a sales team of 5-10 people to meet sales targets.
  2. Ensuring the client service and sales team follow sales and service processes, maintaining accurate and complete business data.
  3. Identifying shortfalls in the sales process and helping to improve efficiency and productivity.
  4. Tracking key productivity metrics and managing the team towards key outcomes.
  5. Improving the quality of data and reporting provided to clients.
  6. Developing strategies for acquiring new advertising customers and retaining and upselling existing ones.
  7. Supporting the management of strategic brands and engaging with high-value advertising clients.
  8. Managing and supporting a team of sales specialists in daily operations.
  9. Coaching the sales team to improve their skills, pipeline building, closing deals, and retaining business.
  10. Working with the Head of Commercial Strategy to set monthly sales targets aligned with business objectives.
  11. Ensuring a solid sales pipeline for at least 6 months, with plans for major clients aligned with their 12-month budgets.
  12. Facilitating cross-functional collaboration between sales, marketing, merchant, and finance teams.
  13. Building presentations and delivering sales pitches to secure new business.
  14. Recruiting and onboarding new sales specialists (Account Managers & Key Account Managers).
  15. Managing the performance of sales specialists.
  16. Driving adoption of Takealot's self-service advertising platform among retail suppliers and agencies.
  17. Developing promotional materials and case studies to encourage platform adoption and campaign management services.
  18. Collecting supplier feedback to enhance the platform and service offerings.
  19. Improving NPS scores, retention, and account growth metrics.
  20. Serving as a thought leader through webinars and event speaking engagements.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Marketing, or Digital Communications
  • Minimum 5 years experience in client services, preferably in an advertising agency
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • Experience in driving client portfolio growth with a proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales targets
  • At least 2 years managing a sales team
  • Experience establishing sales management processes
  • Experience with CRM tools
  • eCommerce experience is preferred but not required
