Job description

A vacancy exists for a Porter position reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, Carol Lohrentz. The successful candidate will support the pharmacy in distributing Pharmaceutical and Surgical stock. The pharmacy porter is responsible for contributing to the effective management of stock within the Pharmacy and throughout the hospital.

Critical Outputs
  • Regular pick-up and delivery of prescriptions between Wards and Pharmacy.
  • Deliver surgical ward stock securely to wards and theatre.
  • Receiving, unpacking, and storing surgical stock received.
  • Assist with & manage stock distribution to units through auto transfers.
  • Assist with cycle counts and stock takes in Pharmacy and wards.
  • Ensure credited surgical stock is returned to the correct storage area.
  • Assist with stock management related to expiry dates, damaged stock, stock rotation, and ad hoc activities.
  • Assist with general clerical/admin duties in the Pharmacy.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with nursing staff and other hospital functions.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 National Senior Certificate.
  • Availability to work extra hours when needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Partnership building, customer orientation, and willingness to be multi-skilled.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Computer literacy; knowledge of SAP, Impilo billing, and stock control systems is advantageous.
  • Physical strength to handle heavy stock boxes, trolleys, and high shelves, following correct safety procedures.
  • Problem-solving, analysis, and judgment.
  • Resilience.
  • Verbal & written communication and presentation.
