Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to manage cleaning, hygiene, and environmental compliance across Richards Bay port facilities. The role covers offices, workshops, washrooms, and external areas, with focus on waste segregation, disposal, and recycling, and ensuring safe handling of cleaning chemicals.

The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial cleaning, knowledge of safety regulations, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic port environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial or industrial cleaning.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and waste management practices.
• Understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Ability to work independently in a demanding schedule.
• Strong communication and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough cleaning and sanitation of port facilities, including offices, workshops, washrooms, common areas, and external spaces.
• Implement and monitor waste management programs, ensuring proper segregation, disposal, and recycling.
• Operate and maintain specialized cleaning equipment and vehicles relevant to port operations.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to port authorities and maritime environments.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and address hygiene or safety concerns.
• Respond to emergencies and spills with appropriate containment and cleanup procedures.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, ensuring proper stock and safe storage.
• Collaborate with other port departments to coordinate cleaning schedules and address operational needs.
• Promote a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among staff and visitors.
• Undertake other duties as assigned by Environmental Services Manager.
