Placements24 is seeking a Public Affairs Officer based in Pretoria, Gauteng to manage government relations, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement in a dynamic nonprofit setting. The role demands strong analytical, research, and writing skills with a keen understanding of South Africa's political landscape.

You will develop and implement public affairs strategies, monitor legislation, and represent the organization at hearings and meetings.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, International Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years in public affairs, government relations, policy analysis, or advocacy.
• In-depth knowledge of the South African political system and legislative processes.
• Proven experience building and managing relationships with government stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
• Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
• Ability to navigate complex policy environments and advocate effectively.
• Demonstrated understanding of policy issues relevant to the organization's mission.
• Excellent networking and interpersonal skills. Experience in Pretoria or with national government entities is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement public affairs strategies to support the organization's policy agenda.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the organization's work.
• Build and maintain relationships with government officials, parliamentarians, and relevant agencies.
• Represent the organization at public hearings, consultations, and stakeholder meetings.
• Prepare policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials.
• Liaise with media outlets to communicate the organization's stance on key issues.
• Organize and facilitate dialogue between the organization and policymakers.
• Advise senior management on public affairs matters and political trends.
• Collaborate with partner organizations on joint advocacy campaigns.
• Track and report on legislative outcomes and public affairs activities.
