Job summary

MRI Software is seeking a PMO Team Lead to drive governance, reporting, and continuous improvement across the UK Professional Services organization. You will lead a growing PMO team, ensure alignment with the MRI 4D Framework, and serve as a trusted advisor to project leadership.

The role is hybrid, based in Cape Town with UK hours, and requires strong PMO and leadership experience. You will collaborate with Project Managers, Team Leaders, and global PMO stakeholders to enhance delivery

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in project management, PMO leadership, or governance within professional services or software
  • 2+ years people management or team leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery methodologies, governance frameworks, and portfolio management
  • Certifications such as PRINCE2, PMP, PMBOK, MSP or equivalent
  • Experience managing project portfolios and producing executive-level reporting and insights
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, resource management, and risk management understanding
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple levels
  • Experience driving process improvement and PMO maturity initiatives
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 incl. Excel and Power BI
  • Experience in software, technology, or SaaS environments advantageous
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed, globally distributed organization

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the PMO team for high performance and growth
  • Oversee workload allocation, prioritization, and resource planning across the PMO
  • Define objectives, performance standards, and development plans aligned to goals
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement in PMO practice
  • Act as escalation point for PMO issues, risks, and governance concerns
  • Own and drive adherence to MRI 4D Framework across the project portfolio
  • Conduct audits, health checks, and governance reviews to identify improvements
  • Define and improve governance processes, templates, and documentation
  • Ensure consistent application of governance standards across delivery teams
  • Monitor remediation actions and ensure timely closure
  • Oversee portfolio reporting with health, budgets, and utilization insights
  • Develop executive dashboards and reporting for regional/global leadership
  • Identify risks and bottlenecks; drive mitigation strategies
  • Build strong relationships with regional operations, PM Leaders, and stakeholders
  • Facilitate governance forums and leadership discussions to support decisions
  • Support training and capability development across the global PMO

Position Overview

As the PMO Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading and developing the PMO function across the UK Professional Services organisation, ensuring the successful implementation of project governance, controls, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will provide leadership and guidance to a growing team of PMO Coordinators while partnering closely with Project Managers, Team Leaders, Regional Services Operations, and Global PMO stakeholders. This role plays a critical part in driving project delivery excellence, standardizing governance practices, and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with the MRI 4D Framework. You will oversee project compliance, portfolio reporting, risk management processes, resource coordination, and PMO best practices while acting as a trusted advisor to project leadership. The successful candidate will combine strong project governance expertise with proven people leadership experience, enabling them to develop team capability, drive operational efficiencies, and enhance the overall maturity of the PMO function.

We understand the need to provide a flexible working environment partnered with team collaboration and socialisation. Therefore, we operate a hybrid working model with 3 days of working from home per week. This role is based in the Cape Town office.

Please note that this position supports the UK region and therefore follows UK working hours (10:00 - 18:30 SA time and until 19:30 during daylight saving).

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop the PMO team, ensuring high performance and continuous professional growth.
  • Manage workload allocation, prioritization, and resource planning across the PMO team.
  • Establish team objectives, performance standards, and development plans aligned to business goals.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the PMO function.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for PMO-related issues, risks, and governance concerns.
Governance & Compliance
  • Own and drive adherence to the MRI 4D Framework and project governance standards across the project portfolio.
  • Conduct regular project audits, health checks, and governance reviews to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Define, maintain, and continuously improve governance processes, methodologies, templates, and documentation.
  • Ensure consistent application of governance standards across project delivery teams.
  • Monitor corrective actions and ensure remediation plans are completed effectively.
Portfolio Oversight & Reporting
  • Oversee project portfolio reporting, ensuring accurate and timely visibility of project health, risks, budgets, resource utilization, and delivery performance.
  • Develop and present executive-level reporting and dashboards to regional and global leadership teams.
  • Analyze portfolio trends and provide insights and recommendations to improve project outcomes.
  • Identify risks, bottlenecks, and delivery challenges across the project portfolio and drive mitigation strategies.
Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong relationships with Regional Services Operations, PM Team Leaders, Project Managers, and Global PMO stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on governance, project controls, reporting, and PMO best practices.
  • Facilitate governance forums, PMO reviews, and leadership discussions to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with delivery leadership to improve project performance and operational effectiveness.
Continuous Improvement & PMO Maturity
  • Drive PMO excellence initiatives and identify opportunities to improve project delivery processes, governance, and reporting capabilities.
  • Lead lessons learned programs and ensure best practices are shared across teams.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making through effective use of PMO tools, systems, and reporting.
  • Support strategic PMO initiatives and contribute to the ongoing development of the global PMO function.
  • Develop and deliver governance and project management training programs.
Requirements
  • 5+ years experience in project management, PMO leadership, or project governance roles within a professional services or software organization.
  • 2+ years' people management or team leadership experience, including coaching and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery methodologies, governance frameworks, and portfolio management principles.
  • PRINCE2, PMP, PMBOK, MSP, or equivalent project management certification.
  • Experience managing project portfolios and producing executive-level reporting and insights.
  • Strong understanding of project financials, budgeting, forecasting, resource management, and risk management.
