Job summary

A maritime staffing agency is seeking a Plumber to oversee sewage system inspections and repairs on board. Responsibilities include maintaining galley machinery, installing plumbing fixtures, and promoting health and safety practices. Experience with sewage systems and compliance with safety regulations is essential. This position is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

  • Regularly clean sewage system filters and report status.
  • Install vacuum toilet systems and various faucets.
  • Inspect and repair steam and water pipes.
  • Maintain galley machinery operating with steam or water.
  • Promote health and safety culture onboard.
  • Manage pool equipment operations in absence of operator.

Job description

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  1. The Plumber is responsible for inspecting all sewage systems, including toilets, vacuum systems, treatment plants, and relevant tanks. The plumber evaluates potential solutions to resolve issues promptly, monitors consumable materials, and reports shortages to the Hotel Engineer.
  1. Regularly clean laundry discharge grey water filters and pax cabins discharge grey water filters, report their status to the Hotel Technician.
  1. Install vacuum toilet systems, understanding the risks of improper installation, and install various types of faucets in cold and hot water systems, including in pax cabins, showers, spa rooms, galley, and laundry areas.
  1. Inspect and repair steam pipes and water pipes in coffee and grinder machines.
  1. Maintain and repair galley machinery that operates with steam or water, such as dishwashers, pot washers, glass washers, steam heaters, steam valves, and steam pipes.
  1. Promote a safe and sustainable health and safety culture on board by strictly following HESS regulations and health protocols to prevent disease spread, reporting violations to the Head of Department.
  1. Manage pool equipment operations in the absence of a Water and Pool Operator onboard.
