Main job function

An electrical automation compnay are looking for a PLC Project technician to carry out project based work for installing new PLC installations, retrofits and upgrades.

Responsibilities

• Handle incoming enquiries for PLC upgrades, retrofits or new PLC installations.
• Prepare quotes for projects: parts, specifications, cycle analysis, labour requirements and overall function. Define scope, benefits, exclusions and submit for approval.
• Install and commission the PLC-based solutions as quoted.
• Check schematic drawings prior to panel building or manufacturing.
• Understand electronic principles of drives and servo motors.
• Generate timing plans for projects (if costed) and manage the timelines.
• Ensure all required project documentation is in order.
• Design PLC functionality and translate into streamlined, functional PLC programs.
• Design and validate HMI and program functionality.
• Be fully self-sufficient in electrical drawing creation.
• Escalate supplier non-delivery when required to the relevant manager.
• Keep clients informed of progress and any changes promptly.

Required experience and knowledge

• Siemens S7 knowledge
• Servo closed-loop VSD knowledge
• CAD or equivalent design software experience
• EPLAN knowledge (advantageous)
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
