Job summary

Network Finance is seeking a skilled Software Engineer - PLC Automation in Gauteng to develop, program, test, and commission PLC-based automation systems for industrial applications.

You will combine software development with control systems knowledge to deliver reliable, efficient automation solutions and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to optimise processes and equipment performance.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or control systems.
• Proven PLC programming and industrial automation software development experience.
• Strong understanding of industrial control systems, automation principles and control logic.
• Experience with one or more PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Omron, Mitsubishi).
• Experience with HMI/SCADA development and configuration.
• Knowledge of Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA communications.
• Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware interfaces in automated systems.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, program, configure, and maintain PLC-based automation and control systems for industrial applications.
• Write, test, debug, and optimise PLC software to meet functional, operational, and safety requirements.
• Develop and configure HMI and SCADA applications for machine control, process visualisation, monitoring, and data acquisition.
• Integrate PLCs with electrical equipment, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, drives, and other control devices.
• Develop control logic, sequences, interlocks, alarms, and process control functions.
• Perform software testing, simulation, troubleshooting, and system validation before deployment.
• Participate in installation, commissioning, and start-up of automated machinery and industrial systems.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC software, communication, instrumentation, and control system faults.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including software specifications and operating manuals.
• Modify and upgrade existing PLC software to improve performance and reliability.
• Integrate industrial communication protocols between PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, drives, and supervisory systems.
