Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Early Childhood Educator in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. You will develop and implement play-based activities, observe child progress, and collaborate with a team to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for children aged 0-5.

You will maintain strong communication with parents and support family engagement, while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. Passion for early development and empathy are essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Early Childhood Development (ECD) or equivalent.
• Proven experience with children aged 0–5 in childcare or education.
• Strong knowledge of play-based learning methods.
• Excellent observation, assessment, and documentation skills.
• Good communication with children, parents, and colleagues.
• Patience, empathy and genuine love for working with kids.
• Residency or reliable commute to Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities based on play-based learning.
• Observe and assess children's development, documenting progress and identifying needs.
• Create a safe, stimulating, inclusive classroom environment for exploration and discovery.
• Maintain open communication with parents/guardians regarding progress and well-being.
• Manage daily routines including feeding, hygiene, and nap times.
• Collaborate with educators and staff to plan events and programs.
• Uphold high standards of childcare practice and regulatory compliance.
• Foster positive social-emotional development and self-regulation.
