Job description

RedCat Recruitment is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced PLANT MANAGER for an international concern, position based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

REQUIREMENTS

Grade 12.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent / related field.

Valid driver’s license / own vehicle.

Ability to communicate fluently in English (read, write and speak). Zulu speaking an added advantage.

Experience of working in a multinational environment, ERP systems (e.g. Oracle) experience preferable.

Excellent IT skills with strong analytical abilities.

5yrs+ previous experience in a similar position.

Working experience in the steel industry / mining industry in a manufacturing environment.

Operational excellence - Kaizen / 5S or other lean manufacturing tools experience.

Excellent communicator who can inspire, drive, manage change and lead team.

Maintains and strives for improvement in existing standards of safety, quality and output and leads globally-supported change initiatives to raise overall factory performance. Responsible for leading and developing team of 7 direct employees made up of production operators, maintenance technician and laboratory / quality team with a similar number of temporary labour.

Ability to develop and execute strategy and be a ‘hands-on’ manager.

Business acumen - strong customer facing, commercial and financial skills.

Maintenance background and ability to direct both internal and contract services as required.

Computerised maintenance system experience.

Experience and knowledge of lean and quality, environmental and health and safety systems.

Proven world class safety management and implementation experience.

Ensure that the site operates within all necessary statutory and corporate safety requirements.

Achieve customer requirements at lowest delivered cost and required quality levels.

Deliver plant financial performance.

Maintain systems, communications and training in health and safety, quality and environment (ISO).

Drive operational excellence programme, and be a champion of standard work procedures and 5S.

Lead continuous improvement activities, encouraging all team members to participate in Kaizen events.

Lead operations team and prioritise their development for the future.

Maximise utilisation and efficiency of plant and equipment, ensuring a robust program of TPM.

Ensure compliance with all internal and external reporting requirements.

Manage manufacturing projects, product transfer, domestically and internationally, capital investments and process improvements.

Implement and drive total productive maintenance programme.
