Job description

Experience :

The successful incumbent must possess at least seven (7) years proven working experience as a Plant Manager within the water treatment sector.

Formal qualifications :

  • A degree in engineering (chemical / mechanical / civil) or a post -graduate degree in Environmental Science
  • Valid drivers license

Responsibilities :

  • As this is a new plant, the incumbent will be expected to develop and implement standards, operating procedures and allocate resources effectively.
  • Interpreting operating data and adjusting operating procedures, if needed, to ensure continuous and efficient treatment as per the operating permit requirements.
  • Directing operational adjustments to process equipment, as needed, to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Supervising the performance of general maintenance (mechanical and electrical equipment).
  • Updating daily plant operations log .
  • Supervising and training operators.
  • Inventory management on all plant materials and equipment.
  • Planning for the optimum use of plant infrastructure in order to achieve the departmental goals and objectives.
  • Managing schedules of workforce and contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of a biological wastewater processing plant that operates 24 / 7.
  • Inherent requirements for the position :

  • Working knowledge of water treatment processes and the water industry.
  • Familiarity of water operations and maintenance procedures.
  • In depth working knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).
  • Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organising and prioritising tasks.
  • Strong leadership skills- including excellent delegation and staff management.
  • Business management skills.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling tools and cost estimation software.
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written and technical).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Excellent reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of project management software.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
