Job summary

MyCareerCraft in Port Elizabeth seeks an experienced Plant Maintenance Team Leader to oversee maintenance activities in a manufacturing environment. You will ensure equipment, machinery, and infrastructure meet high operational standards to support production targets and workplace safety.

You will lead maintenance teams, manage preventative and breakdown maintenance, supervise artisans, and coordinate shutdown planning while controlling costs and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or equivalent in a maintenance field.
• Supervisory or First Line Management certification is advantageous.
• At least 5 years in maintenance; 1–2 years in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

• Manage preventative, predictive, and breakdown maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules and supervise teams and artisans.
• Investigate equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure job cards, permits, and maintenance documentation are complete.
• Support plant shutdown planning and maintenance projects.
• Maintain safe working conditions and ensure HSE compliance.

Requirements

Trade Test or Technical Qualification in a maintenance-related field (NQF 5 or equivalent)

Certificate in Supervisory or First Line Management will be beneficial

Approximately 5 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

At least 1–2 years experience in a supervisory capacity

Experience working shifts will be advantageous

Strong knowledge of maintenance systems, processes, and safety legislation

Computer literacy (MS Office and maintenance/ERP systems such as SAP preferred)

Manage preventative, predictive, and breakdown maintenance to reduce equipment downtime

Coordinate maintenance schedules and supervise maintenance teams and artisans

Investigate equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat issues

Ensure job cards, permits, and maintenance documentation are completed accurately

Support plant shutdown planning and maintenance projects

Maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations

Monitor maintenance costs and contribute to budgeting and cost-saving initiatives

Provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance management for team members

Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure service delivery standards are met
