Job description

Plant Facilities Handyman required in Johannesburg.

The Plant Facilities Handyman will work alongside maintenance staff to ensure that the plant equipment are maintained and operational. Equipment which operates in its purpose helps sustain a balanced functional business environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain existing equipment and systems
• Maintain equipment and building provisions
• Run routine maintenance inspections
• Monitor interior and exterior areas of building for cleanliness and general conservation
  Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that equipment continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Do all preventative maintenance according to the job cards issued by the maintenance planner.
  • Report any other equipment that needs a job card to the maintenance planner to ensure that the job card is created.
• Inspect, troubleshoot and repair equipment and machinery
  • Conducts basic maintenance which includes repairing plumbing systems, fixing company equipment or tools and testing various company appliances to ensure they work properly.
  • Repairing machines or systems using the correct tools.
  • Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Determining causes of operating errors and troubleshoot how it can be improved, or damage prevented.
• Support the maintenance and production to ensure sustainability
  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems, analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Getting Information, Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Support maintenance and instalment work as needed.
• Admin, measure and reporting.
  • Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
  • Complete all job cards from the maintenance planner with all the details required to track maintenance and cost.
  • Record all work required and completed on the Preventative Maintenance platform

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric
• Own vehicle
• Experience working in an industrial / manufacturing / plant environment
• Knowledge and experience in the following:
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry (hanging of doors)
  • Repairing machines or systems using the correct tools
  • Equipment maintenance
• Administration skills: completing job cards, recording work and cost of work
• Reporting experience
• Stable track record
• Non-smoking
