The post holder will report to the Therapy Services Coordinator and will be expected to provide holistic physiotherapy services to all patients admitted to the rehabilitation unit.

Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Physiotherapist at the acute Rehabilitation Unit at Life Hilton Private Hospital in KZN. The Life Rehabilitation at Life Hilton Rehabilitation unit is part of an expanding network of rehabilitation units within Life Healthcare. The post holder will report to the Therapy Services Coordinator and will be expected to provide holistic physiotherapy services to all patients admitted to the rehabilitation unit.

Critical Outputs
  • Provide physiotherapy clinical services to all patients admitted to Life Hilton Rehabilitation Unit, including on some weekends and public holidays.
  • Conduct assessments, plan programmes and administer treatment to patients with neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, orthopaedic conditions, or multi-morbidity conditions like Guillain Barre, in collaboration with other therapy disciplines.
  • Make recommendations regarding suitable assistive devices in collaboration with the occupational therapist.
  • Actively participate in the spasticity management programme.
  • Educate patients and their families about the patient’s condition.
  • Conduct home visits if indicated to ensure a safe discharge destination.
  • Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
  • Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
  • Keep accurate and timely records and reports.
  • Respond effectively to queries and handle accordingly.
  • Implement professional therapy services in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
  • Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet quality patient care standards.
  • Attend and contribute to Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
  • Supervise and train university students, as required.
  • Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.
Requirements
  • B degree / BSc degree in Physiotherapy and current HPCSA registration.
  • Experience in hospital-based multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
  • Special interest in treating adults with neurological disorders; NDT training is an advantage.
  • Basic/intermediate skills in seating and spasticity management are an advantage.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary care.
  • Commitment to quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
  • Patient advocacy.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination.
