Qualifications

Reporting Line: Therapy Services Coordinator
Job Summary: Providing Physiotherapy Services for all patients admitted to the Rehabilitation Unit.
Reporting Structure:
Acting Therapy Service Coordinator: Elmiza Van Huyssteen

Critical Outputs
  • Provide a Physiotherapy clinical service to all patients admitted to Life Rehabilitation Unit, including on some weekends and public holidays.
  • Conduct assessments, plan programmes and administer treatment to patients with e.g. neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, orthopaedic conditions or multi-morbidity conditions such as Guillain Barre, etc. in collaboration with other therapy disciplines.
  • To have experience in pediatrics and adults
  • Individual therapy required daily
  • To facilitate groups weekly with patients
  • To provide necessary chest therapy where required
  • Assess and recommend appropriate assistive devices.
  • Explore physical limitations for possible return to work options and reasonable accommodation requirements.
  • Actively participate in the spasticity management programme.
  • Conduct home visits when required to ensure a safe and appropriate discharge destination.
  • Educate patients and their families about the patient’s condition.
  • Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
  • Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
  • Keep accurate and timeous records and reports.
  • Effectively respond to queries and handle accordingly.
  • Professional therapy service implementation in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
  • Function effectively as a part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the requirements of quality patient care.
  • Attend and contribute towards Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
  • Supervise and train of university students, as required.
  • Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation
Requirements
  • B degree / BSc degree in Physiotherapy and current HPCSA registration.
  • At least 3-5 years’ Experience in hospital-based multi-disciplinary rehabilitation.
  • Special interest in the treatment of adults with neurological disorders, NDT training an advantage.
  • Basic/intermediate seating and spasticity management an advantage.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary care.
  • Commitment to quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
