Job summary

Nelson Mandela University is seeking a Laboratory Technician in the Department of Human Physiology. The role involves independently managing undergraduate practical sessions, ordering equipment, and supervising laboratory staff and student demonstrators.

You will maintain LMS records, ensure safety compliance, and provide technical support for research programs, with duties assigned by the Head of Department from time to time.

Qualifications

• BSc in Human Physiology (MSc preferred).
• 3+ years as a laboratory technician in tertiary education.

Responsibilities

• Validate, prepare and present undergraduate practical sessions independently.
• Source and order equipment and chemicals.
• Supervise lab assistants, cleaners and student demonstrators.
• Maintain marksheets via LMS and assist with admin duties.
• Ensure upkeep of all Physiology laboratories.
• Supervise operation and maintenance of lab equipment and train students.
• Handle and manage biological specimens per procedures and safety rules.
• Provide technical support for department research programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by HoD.
