Job summary

Mediclinic International is seeking a Phlebotomy/Stock Nurse to draw blood and collect specimens on-site, adhering to professional standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves pre- and post-test counselling, patient safety, and accurate documentation.

You will maintain sterile work areas, manage stock records, and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team within the EC Unit. On-site permanent position with alignment to Mediclinic Southern Africa employment equity preferences.

Qualifications

• Must be a Registered/Enrolled Nurse or hold a Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques.
• Experience of 1-2 years after nursing/phlebotomy qualification is required.
• Knowledge of IPC, HSE and patient safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex blood/specimen collection to ensure safe patient care.
• Conduct pre- and post-test counselling for patients and families.
• Identify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety and follow health protocols.
• Handle administrative tasks to ensure accurate recording and processing of patient information.
• Ensure stock is recorded and charged.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To draw blood, or other samples/specimens, from patients for various testing purposes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Perform a variety of routine and complex blood and specimen collecting procedures in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements to ensure safe patient care
• Conduct pre-and post-test counselling to patients and family members, to explain blood draw procedures and answer any questions about the process
• Identify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety and follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a sterile work area
• Perform administrative tasks to ensure correct and accurate recording and processing of patient and clinical information
• Ensure that all utilised stock is accurately recorded and charged
• Build and maintain collaborative working relationships, as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the EC Unit

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

• Registered/Enrolled Nurse, or
• Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

• At least 1 - 2 years' experience after nursing/phlebotomy qualification

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, clinical policies and procedures
