Job summary

Mediclinic Nelspruit is seeking a skilled phlebotomy nurse to draw blood and collect samples for testing in a high-standard clinical environment. You will counsel patients, ensure safety protocols, and maintain accurate records while supporting the EC Unit team.

Ideal candidates hold nursing registration or phlebotomy certification with 1–2 years’ post-qualification experience, and a solid grasp of IPC and health and safety practices.

Qualifications

• Registered/Enrolled Nurse or Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques.
• 1–2 years’ experience after nursing/phlebotomy qualification.
• Knowledge of safety and infection prevention/control required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex blood/ specimen collection procedures per standards and regs.
• Provide pre- and post-test counselling to patients and families.
• Identify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety.
• Record and process patient and clinical information accurately.
• Record and charge stock usage and ensure stock is managed.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team within the EC Unit.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To draw blood, or other samples/specimens, from patients for various testing purposes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Perform a variety of routine and complex blood and specimen collecting procedures in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements to ensure safe patient care
• Conduct pre-and post-test counselling to patients and family members, to explain blood draw procedures and answer any questions about the process
• Identify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety and follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a sterile work area
• Perform administrative tasks to ensure correct and accurate recording and processing of patient and clinical information
• Ensure that all utilised stock is accurately recordedand charged
• Build and maintain collaborative working relationships, as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the EC Unit

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

• Registered/Enrolled Nurse, or
• Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

• At least 1 - 2 years’ experience after nursing/phlebotomy qualification
