Job Title: Phlebotomist

Location: Western Cape, Cape Town

Introduction

MHR is seeking experienced Phlebotomists to work at a private hospital in Cape Town Northern Suburbs (Western Cape). This is a part-time position with shifts starting from mid-October 2025. Complimentary indemnity insurance cover is provided.

Requirements

  • This is a part-time fixed-shift role; permanent employment is not available.
  • Must reside in Cape Town Northern Suburbs or nearby areas.
  • Certified in Phlebotomy Techniques; registered with SANC or HPCSA as a Medical Technician in Phlebotomy.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience as a Phlebotomist.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended; successful applicants will be required to get vaccinated.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience drawing blood from pediatric patients and arterial blood gases.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Patient assessment, counseling skills, and risk identification.
  • Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and administrative skills; proficient in Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draw blood and other specimens according to professional standards and regulations.
  • Perform routine and complex blood collection procedures safely.
  • Provide pre- and post-test counseling to patients and families.
  • Identify and report risks, maintain sterile work environment.
  • Accurately record and process patient and clinical information.
  • Manage stock and supplies properly.
  • Collaborate effectively with the hospital's multidisciplinary team.
