Job summary

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in South Africa is seeking a registered Pharmacist to dispense medications, provide pharmaceutical expertise to patients and healthcare professionals, and ensure safe use of prescriptions.

Essential requirements include Grade 12, BPharm, SAPC registration, 2–3 years’ pharmaceutical and retail pharmacy experience, and computer literacy. Advantageous: SAP/E-scripting, Unisolv, additional language.

  • Grade 12 / Matric; BPharm / equivalent qualification; SAPC registration; Min 2-3 years' experience in Pharmaceutical; 2-3 years retail pharmacy experience; Computer literate – MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense medication under supervision of Pharmacist.
  • Interpret scripts accurately per legal requirements.
  • Capture script details and verify patient information.
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling and checking.
  • Provide patient instructions on medicine use.
  • Keep abreast of medical aid changes for claims and dispensing.
  • Advise patients at dispensary, self-medication counter and front-shop.
  • Process paperwork for claims to medical aids.
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.
  • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology meds.
  • Maintain customer profiles and merge as needed.

Job description

Responsible for dispensing medications, providing pharmaceutical expertise to patients and healthcareprofessionals, and ensuring the safe and effective use of prescription medications.

Minimum Requirements
Essential
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BPharm / equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Min 2- 3 years' experience in Pharmaceutical
  • 2-3 years retail pharmacy experience
  • Computer literate – MS Office

Duties and Responsibilities
Dispensing of Medication
  • Dispensing of Medication under direct personal supervision of Pharmacist
  • Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner and within the legal requirements in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Capture script details accurately and verify patient’s details on the system.
  • Ensure accurate picking / packing / labelling and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions.
  • Provide accurate instructions to the patients regarding the correct use of medicine supplied.
  • Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
Customer Service
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter and front-shop.
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking report as requested by the dispensary manager and follow up appointments.
  • Explain all medical aid costs to patients. Administration:
  • Process all paperwork necessary for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.
  • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS and oncology medication.
  • Maintain customer profiles on the system.
  • Merge profiles locally and Vexall should be notified to merge profiles centrally.
  • Take note of any messages on the customer profile and take suitable action.
Stock Control
  • Report on low - / out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Facilitate Bi-annual stock takes.
  • Exercise stock, cash and asset control
Competencies
Essential
  • Comprehensive medicine knowledge including common dosing regimes, interactions and counselling to ensure appropriate and effective treatment outcomes. Understanding of Retail as pertains to pharmacy.
  • Ability to think critically
  • Possess excellent communication skills to guide patients on medication usage and side effects. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people from all sections of the community. English and 2nd language – Read, write and speak
  • Finds solutions to potential issues as well as knowing when to escape the problem and what level to accelerate it to.
  • Acts as a role model to others and talks to others about the need for high standards and quality. Demonstrates drive to ensure that quality is not compromised.
  • Time management. Able to meet deadlines. Demonstrate patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Computer, numerical skills. Unisolv and SAP, E-Scripting
