Job description

A vacancy exists for a Pharmacist based at Life Peglerae Hospital, reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, Sonique van den Berg. The purpose of this role is to ensure the delivery of quality pharmaceutical services and patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving quality pharmaceutical services, financial objectives, legislative compliance, and effective people management.

Critical Outputs

• Dispensing medication to wards and patients, including on-call, weekend, and public holiday duties.
• Assist with management of all pharmaceuticals within the hospital.
• Manage dispensary staff and oversee human resource functions.
• Provide excellent customer service and build professional relationships with doctors, patients, staff, and external stakeholders.
• Perform quality ward rounds and support units with training and pharmacy-related issues.
• Drive Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) initiatives within the hospital.
• Manage pharmacy finances, including budgeting, procurement, stock levels, and inventory control.
• Implement formulary decisions and product conversions to support cost containment.
• Ensure medication safety and compliance with all legal and professional standards, including SAPC, DOH, DOL, and LHC regulations.
• Maintain high standards of GPP and conduct regular audits.
• Adhere to quality management systems, OHSA, ISO 9001 standards, and security protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree.
• Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• Hospital and/or retail pharmacy experience.
• Knowledge of pharmacy operations, legislation, and healthcare challenges.
• Proficiency in SAP and Impilo systems is advantageous.
• Strong pharmaceutical product knowledge.
• Computer literacy is essential.
