Qualifications

Job description

My client based in Johannesburg is currently looking for a Petrochemical Industry Manager to join them on a permanent basis

Responsibilities

  • Provide dynamic business unit leadership to ensure a motivated and committed workforce
  • Show strong operational leadership
  • Build and maintain collaboration and teamwork with all areas and operations in the group
  • Develop and implement vision, mission and values for the petrochemical business and its various suppliers, customers and staff to ensure long term market leadership maximization
  • Develop and implement individual product and principal business strategy, budgets, cash flow, people development and succession plans
  • Continuously drive long-term sales, customer satisfaction and bottom-line growth in a proactive, planned, creative and sustainable way
  • Identify business risks, develop appropriate responses and manage this risk mitigation
  • Plan and direct the regional and customer activities to achieve targets and financial and trading performance, quality, ethics, culture and legislative adherence
  • Direct the performance of the various product lines via cohesive and proactive regional teams, to reinforce ethical organisational philosophy and corporate culture, as directed by the MD - i.e. to drive long term sustainability and growth covering profit, environment and stakeholders around them
  • Develop and maintain values and reputation of ethical leadership with all the players, in its markets, customers, suppliers, partners and regulatory / official bodies
  • Report to the MD on business unit strategies, plans and performance, plus give direction to future opportunities, capital and operational expenditure
  • Build up alliances, partnerships and networks in the interest of the organisation for the long-term viability and growth of the business
  • Execute the responsibilities to lawful requirements

Experience

  • A Chem Eng degree or diploma ideally in the petrochemical sector
  • Added advantage will be further commercial study e.g. MBA/ Business Management
  • At least 7 years' experience in the chemical supply field and 5 years petrochemical ingredient leadership
  • Experience in and a soundtrack record of growing sales and understanding bottom line

Competencies

  • An experienced manager and a hands-on leader of people with an inclination towards being tough-minded and demanding in respect of performance standards
  • Experience in building and managing relationships successfully
  • Ability and experience to create a performance culture through personal interaction with all relevant players
  • Skilled in managing and leading the overall commercial performance of a business i.e. a good understanding of the financial performance and financial control is essential
  • Understand the raw material procurement mechanisms in the chemical raw material industry
  • Experience in and tenacity to manage in Africa
  • Understanding the full value chain and experience in the business
  • Experience plus good understanding of the key drivers in the commercial sales and marketing side of chemical raw materials
  • Must be streetwise and be able to hold their own in all situations
  • Experience in working constructively with government and third-party suppliers
  • With the assistance of the company leadership implement a sustainable strategic direction
  • A proven ability to manage change successfully
  • Experience to work with a board of directors as a senior team member
  • Strong communication skills are required
