Job summary

Hatch in Johannesburg seeks a Civil Designer to support project delivery in mining, energy and infrastructure. You will assist the Lead Civil Designer, produce 2D and 3D drawings, and ensure alignment with other disciplines across the project lifecycle.

The role requires five years of civil design experience, strong CAD skills, and a focus on safety and regulatory compliance within a large EPCM environment.

Qualifications

• Engineering diploma (N Dip) or BTech in Civil/Structural.
• Minimum of five years civil design experience.
• Experience in a large-project, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment.
• Proficient in 2D and 3D civil design software packages.
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes relevant to the project.
• Understanding of other discipline requirements.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Civil Designer with scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
• Coordinate and check the work of draftspeople in preparation of contract drawings and record keeping.
• Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software.
• Perform conceptual layout work.
• Check drawings prior to release.
• Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within civil discipline and with other disciplines.
• Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.
• Participate in formal engineering review processes.
• Verify on-site conditions and dimensions relating to existing facilities.
• Incorporate safety in design.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Civil Designer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
• Co-ordinate and check the work of draftspersons in the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work

Qualifications and Experience

• Engineering diploma (N Dip) or equivalent (civil/structural) Bachelor of Technology (BTech)
• Minimum of five years civil design experience
• Experience within a large-project, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment
• Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D civil design software packages
• Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
• Understanding of other discipline requirements
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good safety awareness.

Preferred

• Professional engineering technician (Pr. Techni/PrTech) registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or as applicable for the specific country
• Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
• Experience in the use of Hatch procedures, adopted standard software and workflows in the execution of proj
• Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
