Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Johannesburg is seeking a Civil Designer with a strong background in multi-disciplinary EPCM projects. The role focuses on delivering accurate civil design across 2D and 3D CAD environments, coordinating with engineers, and ensuring safety is integrated into design.

With at least five years of civil design experience and familiarity with Hatch procedures, you will contribute to project delivery for global clients while working within a collaborative, safety-conscious team.

Qualifications

• Engineering diploma (N Dip) or BTech in civil/structural engineering.
• Minimum of five years civil design experience.
• Experience in large multi-disciplinary EPCM environment.
• Proficient in 2D and 3D civil design software packages.
• Knowledge of industry standards and codes relevant to the project.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Civil Designer with scope, quantities, cost, and schedule.
• Coordinate and check the work of draftspersons for drawings and records.
• Produce and maintain 2D/3D CAD drawings as required.
• Perform conceptual layout work.
• Check drawings prior to release.
• Coordinate with designers and engineers across disciplines.
• Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.
• Participation in formal engineering review processes.
• Verify on-site conditions and dimensions of existing facilities.
• Incorporate safety in design.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Civil Designer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
• Co-ordinate and check the work of draftspersons in the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work
• Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required
• Perform conceptual layout work
• Check drawings prior to release
• Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the civil discipline and with other disciplines
• Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
• Participation in formal engineering review processes
• Verify on-site condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
• Incorporate safety in design.

Qualifications and Experience

• Engineering diploma (N Dip) or equivalent (civil/structural) Bachelor of Technology (BTech)
• Minimum of five years civil design experience
• Experience within a large-project, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment
• Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D civil design software packages
• Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
• Understanding of other discipline requirements
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good safety awareness.

Preferred

• Professional engineering technician (Pr. Techni/PrTech) registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or as applicable for the specific country
• Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
• Experience in the use of Hatch procedures, adopted standard software and workflows in the execution of proj
• Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
