Job description

Company Description

Standard Bank Group is a leading Africa-focused financial services group and an innovative player on the global stage. We offer a variety of career-enhancing opportunities and the chance to work alongside some of the most talented, motivated professionals in the sector. Our clients range from individuals to businesses of all sizes, high net worth families, and large multinational corporates and institutions. We are passionate about creating growth in Africa, bringing meaningful value to our clients and communities, and creating a sense of purpose for our employees.

Job Description

The Behavioural Economics graduate will operate across functions such as Analytics, Digital, Product, Marketing, and Channels. The role involves leveraging behavioural insights to design nudges that influence customer behaviour, generating commercial value for the Bank.

The Behavioural Economics team researches, collates, and recommends global best-practice behavioural case studies from industry and academia. These insights guide the design and development of new initiatives, implemented through multidisciplinary teams and regular experimentation. Initiatives span personal and business banking services, focusing on financial wellbeing, customer outcomes like savings and credit performance, and internal productivity.

This role offers exposure to the entire value chain within financial services, from frontline execution to developing, testing, and scaling interventions. Success depends on cross-functional teamwork involving digital channels, branch networks, segments, products, and marketing, with active learning and practical applications.

Through this rotational programme, you'll learn how to construct behavioural interventions from design to execution, and how to manage and measure experiments. The programme involves identifying opportunities, researching methods, sourcing behavioural insights, designing and monitoring experiments, and collaborating across functions to implement and scale projects. You'll also present insights and results to stakeholders.

During the 12-month programme, you can expect to:

  1. Engage in hypothesis-driven business problem solving
  2. Test hypotheses in live environments (field experimentation)
  3. Manage projects
  4. Express your ideas confidently
  5. Add value to the bank
  6. Engage with stakeholders at all levels
  7. Act in accordance with the bank’s professional standards
  8. Develop a passion for behavioural economics
