Business Unit & Section: Namakwa Sands - Engineering

Primary Location: Smelter Operations (Saldanha)

Position Summary

This position will be part of the Instrumentation team and will be responsible for maintenance and repair activities on instrumentation equipment as well as higher-level faultfinding in the plant and processes.

Development, executing new ideas and contributing to improvement/problem-solving is further requirements as well as the ability to function as an effective team member.

Qualification & Experience
  • Grade 12 Mathematics & Physical Science with a minimum E symbol or Technical N2 Mathematics & Science with a minimum E symbol.
  • N2 Qualification with the following subjects: Instrumentation Trade Theory, Industrial Electronics.
  • Certified Trade Test Qualification.
  • 2 Years Post Trade Test experience and a sound knowledge of and experience in a heavy industry environment.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Computer Literacy with knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good communication and administration skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office assisting in daily scheduling and planning of tasks.
  • Knowledge of process automation, belt scales, and Schenck weigh feeders.
  • Siemens level and pressure and flow transmitter knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of ABB and Siemens analyzers.
  • Good faultfinding and communication skills.
  • Ability to apply systematic fault finding and problem-solving techniques (RCA and RCFA).
  • Experience with PLC's and SCADA systems (Mitsubishi PLC's and ABB M).
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company-specific SHE Policies and procedures.
  • Be prepared to be a team worker able to assist the team to set and achieve targets.
  • Willingness to work overtime, shifts, and standby duties.
  • Be able to work under pressure and independently.
  • Respond to breakdowns and fault finding.
  • Repair, maintain, implement, and commission industrial instruments.
