Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret, implement, and communicate the People & Culture strategic direction to align the people operating plan with business unit strategy.
  • Create an annual People & Culture operating plan based on the business and People strategy.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify trends, shifts, or issues affecting strategy delivery.
  • Contribute to strategic discussions with insights from business knowledge.
  • Support senior leaders on organizational development issues.
  • Conduct organizational diagnosis, facilitate design, and advise on operating models and structures with guidance from the Organisational Development and Effectiveness CoE.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand operational impacts.
  • Guide leaders on people management principles and processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between Centres of Excellence and the business.
  • Ensure collaborative service delivery across functional areas within the Business Unit and People function.
  • Influence managers to champion Employment Equity and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in EE Committee activities and ensure EE Act compliance.
  • Support leadership in performance management initiatives.
  • Align learning & development initiatives with business strategy.
  • Translate talent management requirements into actionable plans.
  • Validate talent bench strength for succession and capability planning.
  • Partner with senior leaders on senior appointments.
  • Drive change management for key initiatives.
  • Embed Employee Value Proposition in People & Culture practices and policies.
  • Maintain healthy relationships with workforce and unions.
  • Manage the People & Culture budget within allocated provisions.
  • Coordinate reports for leadership on HR metrics and data.
  • Analyze and report on HR data, ensuring data integrity.
  • Monitor People practices and lead performance management and leadership development.
  • Mentor People Partners to enhance strategic partnership capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, agility, and results orientation.
  • Support line managers in talent attraction, development, and retention.
  • Drive learning and development initiatives for operational efficiency.
  • Ensure consistent application of policies and standards from CoE across the business unit.
  • Handle CCMA matters as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Honours Degree / Post-Graduate Qualification in HR-related or Industrial Psychology field, NQF 8.

Experience:

  • 8-10 years of HR generalist experience.
  • 3-5 years managing a team and building HR capability, preferably in a research institution.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and HR metrics.
  • Experience leading HR in a unionized environment.
  • Organizational Development experience and ability to engage leaders.
  • Facilitation and change management experience.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of LRA, BCEA, EEA, and HR legislation.
  • Familiarity with HR systems and databases.
