SUMMARY :

  • The Wits Diagnostic Innovation Hub is a division of Wits Health Consortium.
  • Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly owned company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, under its Faculty of Health Sciences.
  • WHC provides a legal framework for faculty research and activities, and offers products and services to academics.

POSITION INFO :

Main purpose of the job :

  • To administer the capturing, distribution, and processing of all specimens, ensuring accurate information is recorded for storage.

Division :

  • Wits Diagnostic and Innovation Hub

Location :

  • Parktown

Key performance areas :

  • Verify information on samples against laboratory request forms.
  • Validate sample tube lot numbers, capture details on request forms, and record receipt details.
  • Log samples on spreadsheets and maintain records.
  • Data entry for specimens in databases, adhering to protocols.
  • Coordinate sample shipping and storage.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance as scheduled.
  • Log, label, and store samples on LIMS systems.
  • Monitor stock levels.
  • Process and store PBMC samples according to SOPs.
  • Perform quality control on samples and data.
  • Participate in pipette validations and EQAs.
  • Assist with Elispot processing and malaria EQA survey coordination.
  • Manage slide stocks at the Malaria EQA lab.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and report issues.
  • Assist with equipment calibration and verification tasks.

Required minimum education and training :

  • Grade 12 with laboratory experience.
  • Diploma in Biomedical Technology or Health Sciences.

Required minimum work experience :

  • At least 2 years as a Laboratory Assistant.

Desirable additional qualifications and skills :

  • HPCSA registration as Laboratory Assistant (preferred).
  • Experience in clinical trials is advantageous.
  • GCLP and GCP certification preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Willingness to work shifts and overtime as needed.
