Introduction
Fastway Couriers is currently recruiting for an experienced and qualified Payroll Officer to join their team. The purpose of this position is to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll for Fastway. The Payroll Officer will manage payroll from start to finish, ensuring all statutory payroll functions are performed in compliance with laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  1. Payroll Management : Collect, process and verify payroll data (e.g., hours worked, overtime, bonuses, etc.). Prepare and issue payslips to employees in a timely manner. Ensure accurate and timely payment of employees' salaries.
  2. Statutory Payroll Functions : Prepare and submit monthly PAYE, UIF, and SDL returns to SARS. Submit accurate UIF declarations to the Department of Employment and Labour monthly. Complete and submit required reports to Stats SA for relevant payroll-related surveys and data collection. Manage and submit EMP mid-year and year-end reconciliation reports to SARS. COIDA Submissions.
  3. Employee Information Maintenance : Maintain and update accurate employee information in the payroll system (e.g., new hires, terminations, changes to salary, bank details, personal information, etc.). Ensure all employee records are compliant with relevant labour laws and are securely stored and easily accessible. Ensure accurate tracking of leave entitlements, sick leave, and other employee-related information. Collaborate with HR to ensure all employee data is aligned with HR policies and accurately reflected in payroll processing.
  4. Compliance and Reporting : Ensure compliance with South African payroll legislation, including PAYE, UIF, SDL, and other relevant statutory obligations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes to payroll-related laws and regulations. Generate payroll reports as required by management for decision-making, tax purposes, and audits. Address and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
  5. Record Keeping and Administration : Maintain accurate and organized records of all payroll-related activities. Ensure confidentiality of all employee payroll and personal information. Handle payroll-related queries from employees and other departments (e.g., HR, finance).
  6. Ad hoc Payroll Duties : Assist with any other payroll-related tasks or projects as needed. Perform audits on payroll data and resolve discrepancies or issues as they arise.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Matric (Degree / Diploma in Logistics or related field would be beneficial)
  2. A minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll administration
  3. Strong understanding of South African payroll legislation (e.g., PAYE, UIF, SDL, and SARS regulations).
  4. Experience with Sage Payroll software.
  5. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in processing payroll data.
  6. Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines, especially during monthly submissions and year-end processes.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills to handle employee queries and collaborate with various departments.
  8. Able to take initiative and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  9. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee payroll data.
  10. Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  11. Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to the team environment.
  12. Sense of urgency and adherence to deadlines.
  13. Must be service-oriented always.
  14. Must have a CAN-DO attitude.
