Job description

Role Purpose,

The incumbent will be responsible to lead our shared services payroll function for 11 payrolls in South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique and Zambia (approx. 3000 employees) and ensure the accurate and timely processing of all payroll-related activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the payroll team, maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, and developing and implementing efficient payroll processes

, Requirements,

  • BCom Degree in Finance and/or Accounting, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in payroll management, including experience in managing a team.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal controls and payroll taxes (legislation) of South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Eswatini and Botswana.
  • Proficiency in payroll software “Payroll Focus” or similar and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work cross functionally with key stakeholders within the business.

Ability to continuously improve processes, systems and procedures in line with the relevant county legislation

, Duties and Responsibilities,

  • Oversee all payroll activities, including the month-end process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant labour laws, tax regulations.
  • Ensure payroll procedures are fully defined, meet best practices, and that the department adheres to these practices.
  • Facilitate the generation of continual improvement processes and quality standards within the Payroll Department.
  • Manage and mentor the payroll team, providing guidance and support.
  • Facilitate payroll audits, ensuring the efficient provision of information to auditors.
  • Develop and implement payroll procedures and controls to minimize errors and ensure data integrity.
  • Liaise with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations.
  • Prepare and analyse payroll reports for management and other stakeholders.
  • Tax year end process and reconciliations (Interim and Annual Tax Year End for South Africa and Africa)
  • Annual COIDA reconciliations and returns, for multiple accounts.
  • Manage the relationship with payroll software provider.
  • Maintenance of payroll system - liaising with program developers regarding system enhancements and features.
  • Project management and implementation skills.
