Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Manager to oversee end-to-end payroll operations across the organization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in both Sage VIP and JD Edwards, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing. This role demands a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and process ownership, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and execute monthly payroll cycles using Sage VIP and JD Edwards systems
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations (PAYE, UIF, SDL, COIDA) and internal policies
  • Reconcile payroll data with finance and HR systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency
  • Oversee payroll audits, tax submissions, and year-end reporting (IRP5s, EMP501s)
  • Maintain employee records, leave balances, and benefits administration
  • Resolve payroll queries and discrepancies in a timely and professional manner
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external auditors to ensure seamless payroll operations
  • Implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency
  • Stay up to date with legislative changes and system upgrades affecting payroll
Candidate Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in payroll management
  • Proficient in Sage VIP and JD Edwards payroll systems (non-negotiable)
  • Strong understanding of South African payroll legislation and tax frameworks
  • Excellent numerical accuracy, analytical skills, and attention to detail
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Relevant qualification in Payroll, HR, Finance, or related field (advantageous)
