We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Professional to oversee the control environment surrounding our internal payroll operations. This individual will work cross-functionally with Payroll and HR teams to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of monthly payroll processes and ensuring all financial entries are properly recorded in the financial records.

The role will focus on developing and embedding financial and operational controls, conducting variance analyses, and implementing checks to prevent errors, fraud, or compliance breaches. This is a critical role in supporting our control and governance framework in a high-volume, people-centric BPO environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Control Framework:

  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust control framework around payroll data flow, approvals, reconciliations, and exception management.
  • Develop and deploy scalable, system-agnostic controls that support payroll accuracy and integrity across varying platforms and processes.
  • Process Oversight & Assurance:
  • Perform pre- and post-payroll checks to ensure data accuracy, including validation of pay components, tax deductions, benefits, and other statutory deductions.
  • Collaborate with the HR and Payroll teams to ensure proper segregation of duties, change tracking, and audit trails.
  • Investigate discrepancies or anomalies in payroll runs, root-cause errors, and recommend preventive solutions.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis between planned vs. actual payroll costs and employee headcount.
  • Governance & Compliance:
  • Ensure payroll processes adhere to internal control standards and external compliance requirements.
  • Maintain documentation of controls, workflows, and policies; contribute to policy enhancements as needed.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Act as the finance point of contact for payroll-related control matters with HR, Payroll, and Finance teams.
  • Provide input into payroll system configuration, change management processes, and improvement initiatives.
  • Reporting
  • Ensuring that all payroll and financial records are properly recorded and presented in the financial records.
  • Assisting and cross-collaboration with the HR department on B-BBEE disclosure and reporting.
  • Quarterly disclosing and reporting of BPO&O Investments Incentives offered by The Enterprise Organization (TEO) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)

Assisting and managing HR with statutory reporting for the Compensation Fund as per the requirements of the Department of Employment and Labour.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in finance, audit, or payroll controls, preferably within a BPO or shared services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or overseeing payroll-related financial data and controls.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, financial controls, and risk management.
  • System-agnostic approach to control design – ability to work across diverse payroll platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with an investigative mindset.
  • Proficient in Excel and data validation techniques; experience with reconciliation tools is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred:

  • Exposure to internal audit practices or experience supporting audit processes.
  • Familiarity with labour regulations and payroll compliance principles
  • Knowledge of control frameworks and internal policy development.
