Activities
As a Payroll, Compensation and Benefits Manager, you would be responsible for the following:
Payroll and HR Administration processing and administration
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing (SAP) and administration for South Africa, Namibia, and Swaziland, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency. This includes updates/changes of earnings, deductions, company contributions, and FBT during onboarding, employee lifecycle, and offboarding.
- Manage exception reporting based on variance methodology to ensure all changes are approved and validated.
- Manage cash flow for payroll payments.
- Oversee final sign-off of monthly audit files as per the checklist.
- Manage statutory and benefit contributions, ensuring timely payments and submissions as per SLA and legislation.
- Handle annual and bi-annual statutory reconciliations as prescribed by SARS (easyFile, efiling, Ufile), SRA, NLR, and BURS.
- Ensure all payroll deadlines (annual, monthly, daily) are met.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate internal communication with employees, clients, and business units.
- Maintain payroll records with high confidentiality and integrity, both hard and soft copies. Collaborate with recruitment to ensure receipt of all source documents timely.
- Manage annual increases and bonuses, including payroll configurations and communication.
- Reconcile weekly and monthly payroll control accounts with Finance.
- Manage journal entries for General Ledger matters.
- Handle all global and expatriate report requests, as well as administration of disability and risk policies (GLA, PHI, dread disease).
- Ensure master data accuracy on SAP and personnel files.
- Maintain records retention as per policy and legislation.
- Manage payroll process documentation and updates.
- Prepare for audit readiness monthly.
Compensation and Benefits
- Design, develop, implement, and manage salary, bonus, and benefits packages.
- Evaluate and modify existing compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with current legislation.
- Manage subordinate HR staff and daily operations related to compensation and benefits.
Customer Service
- Review processes, identify improvements, and implement changes to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Aim to improve operations and reduce turnaround times to enhance customer service.
- Measure resolution cycle times for payroll issues and queries.
- Conduct customer satisfaction surveys to evaluate service delivery.
People Management
- Manage the division and carry out all people management activities.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will have:
- A relevant tertiary degree.
- 10+ years of business-related experience.
- At least 5 years of management experience across business streams.
- Extensive knowledge of benefits, compensation programs, policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Payroll practitioner/rewards specialist certification preferred.
- Advanced experience with SAP payroll system.
- Thorough knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations, policies, procedures, and legislation for South Africa, Swaziland, and Namibia.
