Payroll Accountant

Midrand (Office-based, no traveling or remote work)

Job Overview :

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Payroll Accountant to join our dynamic team. This position involves both payroll and accounting responsibilities. Please note that we are only considering candidates with extensive experience in both areas.

Working Hours : 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday

Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Oversee and manage the full payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of salaries and wages.
  2. Ensure compliance with all payroll taxation and employee tax regulations (RSA and cross-border).
  3. Prepare, manage, and review general ledger reconciliations; ensure accurate posting of payroll transactions.
  4. Conduct monthly and annual payroll reconciliations, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  5. Collaborate with HR and finance teams to ensure correct employee data, benefit deductions, and payroll-related matters.
  6. Prepare and file payroll reports, including statutory submissions, complying with tax laws.
  7. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll data and financial information.
  8. Assist in monthly and year-end financial reporting, adhering to relevant accounting standards.
  9. Utilize Sage 300 for payroll processing and accounting functions.
  10. Analyze payroll data for accuracy and generate reports for management.
  11. Address payroll-related queries from employees and departments.

Required Qualifications and Skills :

  • BCom Accounting Degree (essential).
  • Minimum of 10 years of financial experience, including accounting and payroll.
  • At least 5 years of payroll experience with Sage 300 software expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll taxation and employee tax compliance (RSA and cross-border).
  • Proficiency in General Ledger management and reconciliations.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll and financial data.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
