Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to take ownership of the payroll function across multiple regions, including South Africa, select African countries, and the UK. If you are passionate about payroll compliance, accounting integrity, and process improvement, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process across multiple countries, including general ledger functions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, while maintaining compliance with local legislation and tax regulations.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Collaborate with the employee benefits and HR teams to ensure alignment and data accuracy.
  • Maintain payroll records, systems, and reports for auditing and compliance purposes.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll.
  • Drive the development and implementation of improved payroll processes and internal controls.
  • Assist with finance and accounting functions, including budgeting and forecasting across multiple countries.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small payroll team.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience and a minimum of 2 years leading a team.
  • Solid understanding of payroll accounting principles and cross-border payroll legislation.
  • Proficient in Oracle or similar ERP systems.
  • Experience with multi-country payroll is highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
